Occupational Licensing in Brazil: A new dataset

This data introduces a new dataset of occupational licensing in Brazil by surveying all 84 regulated and licensed occupations and matching them to specific occupational codes in the Brazilian Census and other labor market surveys, as well as identifying the regulation/oversight agency.

This novel dataset will allow researchers to test several hypotheses of the effects of these regulations on wages, wage premiums, labor market participation, and economic differentials across gender lines among licensed and unlicensed occupations.

Lockdown Regulatory Freedom

We construct a state-level measure of lockdown regulatory freedom, following the methodology of Miozzi and Powell (2023) (see here, and here), to measure the severity of lockdowns for each of the Brazilian

states.

We use this measure to provide revised estimates of state-level economic freedom that takes into account Covid-related restrictions that may aid scholars in future research in the field
